9:43 pm - Project Runway coming on soon!
|
Who's your favorite?!
I like the architect but wasn't a big fan of her fur and mirrors coat last week.
I think Keith is lying when he says he's never made a dress before, plus the copied sketches controversy? Something is up with Keith.
I want to love the little blonde girl, I hope she turns out to be down to earth despite being 25. The other girl with short curly brown hair? who made the comforter coat and plastic bag dress? I definitely love her and hope she goes far.
I wish the Barbie designer had won! He made such better use of the materials and was more creative.
Here's my latest ebay purchase, just to keep this from being all text: shimmery peacock earrings from Thailand!

Oh and p.s. Nina Garcia and Heidi are inspiring me to go for the center or just off enter flat part!

who wants to pick this up for me at forever 21? size M? I have no idea how they always sell out so fast, both in stores and on their website. You'd think they'd make more...

I have always wanted to make one of these. I wish these had a snap instead of a zip, maybe I can get a custom job.

3:07 pm - New Orleans Thrift Report
|
|
large gray fake leather tote $2 vintage delta carryon bag with strap $5 red 80s lacey dress (to deconstruct, it's very Glenn Close Fatal Attraction right now) $4 white long vintage childrens? dress with crazy pom pom trim (to make into a shrug) $4 tiny enamel pin that says "historian" $1 two braided rope belts, white and red $3 ea one red patent leather belt with gold accents (nauticaltastic) $2 one red cowgirl type belt $3 old jewelry box $1
My friend got: sequined lounge singer dress for prom $10 12 volume set of vintage cookbook encyclopedia (she is a pastry chef) two bags of vintage souvenir shot glasses $4
We left behind: amazing dark blue cowboy boots (too big) $30 not cheap but they were new and very nice.
Also at a flea market I got a mustache mug (with the mustache protector inside) with an image of different mustache styles along the outside $10
and at Le Garage, my favorite New Orleans store (junk/antiques/vintage clothes/army surplus/lots of old Mardi Gras stuff, and better priced than most of the tourist joints on Decatur) I got 3 matching pair of lederhosen straps. So we can be jackalopes von Deutschland if we want. Or Swiss Miss jackalopes. Or just look cracked out.

I want this coat so bad! But it doubled in price overnight on ebay. I've been planning to do an umbrella print silkscreen for so long -- so I'll just make my own thank you very much.

Embellished jeans: WHY
Also leggings. I get that in a few instances they are cute, but the white capri lace-edged ones that I remember from 4th grade were heinous then as now.

I want this! I feel guilty because it's from suburban outfitters, it's imported and will probably fall apart fast, and is $78 (cheap for a good bag, but expensive for a bag I expect to get 5 uses out of.)
The pros: perfect weekend size (fake) vintage color/graphic and silver trim -- kind of heinous, kind of wonderful
I am planning to travel more than I have been in the past, and I want a great carry-on bag. I never check luggage, I've even been known to mail home boxes of new purchases rather than check them. And those black business traveler rolly suitcases make me want to die of boredom.
I have a Samsonite flower bag which I love but which is heavy vinyl, has a broken zip and no shoulder strap:
 (this pattern, different shape)
and also a hatbox bag which is big enough for the weekend, super stylish, but a little awkward to carry when it's heavy:

But I want something slouchy. Ideas?

 I love novelty print.
I see seriously like 5 girls wearing this coat daily on the streets of nyc. where did they get it? the outlets? Apparently it's banana republic 05 (yes I accosted a girl and asked her). Still, I want one. (ended ebay auctions)

I've been pretty good about limiting my new clothing aquisitions lately. It helps that the weather's too cold for street sales.
However today I splurged on a spring/summer dress by Tracy Reese which I hope I'll wear every day:

A lot of my summer dresses are a little formal (like this one) and I think I avoid wearing them a lot because I don't want to look like I'm lost on my way to a wedding or something (even here in nyc, aka the only place in America you can wear formal clothing anymore? unless you are in a super vintage/rockabilly subculture?)
Flip-flops and a straw bag (and maybe a button-down shirt tied on top) are my preferred method of taking it down a notch. I would love to hear your suggestions.
In last month's Lucky they're showing fancy sneakers (vans-esque) on the runway with dresses. It still hasn't grown on me.
